We’ve known for a long time that women pay a higher price for our culture of burnout, and according to a survey by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, women are nearly twice as likely as men (31% to 17%) to rarely or never wake up feeling well-rested. As Barbara Rhoden, PhD, writes in Fortune, "Throughout our entire lives, we’re made to feel guilty for needing rest...The guilt seems to echo the societal whisper that rest is a luxury, not a necessity.” More here in Fortune: https://lnkd.in/dZhNk43t #Sleep #Rest #Burnout #Health #Wellbeing

Loneliness is an epidemic, but feeling lonely isn’t just about being alone. As The Wall Street Journal reports, “Loneliness can’t simply be measured by the degree of a person’s social interaction.” We all have different needs, and many people who spend very little time alone still feel lonely. https://lnkd.in/dfWJGjjM #Loneliness #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #Connection #Support #Community

Loved my conversation with Lindsay Hans, President and Co-Head of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, to celebrate Women's History Month with Merrill clients and advisors. I was moved by Lindsay's insights on managing "mom guilt" through “naming and containing," a strategy I plan to incorporate into my own life! We also discussed the importance of abandoning the pursuit of perfection in favor of embracing excellence – (drop a comment if you can relate to this!). As we observe Women's History Month, let's remind ourselves that rest and recovery are essential components of success. Here's to a month of celebrating, supporting, and empowering women everywhere. #Empowerment #WellBeing #WomensHistoryMonth #ThriveGlobal #BankOfAmerica

According to a new U.S. News survey, only 20% of Americans say they put their phones away 20-30 minutes before sleeping. A great first step to a good night’s sleep starts with charging your phone outside your bedroom (I tuck my phone into its own Thrive Global Phone Bed Charging Station outside my bedroom.). We’re all looking for wisdom on how to live life, but as Jancee Dunn reports in The New York Times, we can learn a lot from those who haven’t lived much of it: toddlers. Dr. Hasan Merali, MD, MPH, professor of pediatrics at McMaster University shares some of the happiness lessons he’s gleaned from his work with toddlers, including positive self-talk (which toddlers tend to do out loud), taking any opportunity to move, asking questions and finding things to laugh at. So, the next time you need a boost, try channeling your inner toddler: move more, laugh often, and never stop being curious. “Something went suddenly and horribly wrong for adolescents in the early 2010s.” That’s the opening of Jonathan Haidt’s powerful piece in The Atlantic calling for us to “end the phone-based childhood now.” He makes a persuasive case about the costs of phones and social media for children and teens. And he also proposes a way forward with four norms to help lower those costs: no smartphones before high school, no social media before 16, phone‐free schools, more independence, free play, and responsibility in the real world. As he writes, "We didn’t know what we were doing in the early 2010s. Now we do.” https://lnkd.in/ddff27Jj #Technology #Smartphones #Kids #Health #SocialMedia #Wellbeing
